Turnover rates in America

Between the years of 2001-2006, this was the annual turnover rate for employees in all sectors of corporations according the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, total non-farming separations (not seasonally adjusted). This is outrageous! Why are we changing jobs so much? Naturally this changes sector by sector.. for example, the worst annual turnover rate sector was 72.6% in the Leisure and Hospitality sector. Is this maybe an issue within the corporations, or are americans just job hopping? (Keep in mind, this was before the economy crash of 2008.)

Corporate advertising: what is acceptable and not?

Corporations advertise regularly. It's obvious. Look around you. Name brands are everywhere. Every emblem, every slogan is advertising. So why do we has Americans have bans on advertising cigarettes but not alcohol? Think about it. I am not condoning tobacco use, nor alcohol. But what is the logic behind the concept of banning cigarette ads? Should we ban the ads of alcohol as well?

The average age to have first child

Going back to families and how here in the US the birth rate is declining and the average marriage age has sharply risen, I think one factor has been overlooked: what is the average age that americans are having their first child? According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, in 2006 the average age for women was 25.9 and men was 28.1. There are several factors that can play into this high age: economy, rates of college graduates for men and women, and also the age of marriage. As for me and my girlfriend, we both are 20 and just ha our first child, Abel Lee. What other factors could contribute to this high average age? And what consequences could there be if that age changes?

Political mudslinging. A sad but funny truth.

Political ads haven't really flooded the TVs of Texas yet (and I mean yet). But whenever a political campaign is afoot, you can always see political hopefuls trying to bash one another. So everyone who is familiar with Waco or lives in the Central Texas area knows this logo for the Waco Independent School District. Aside from the family environment, the 2nd most common form of socialization for an individual is the educational system which has 2 main goals: a) to teach us a core curriculum consisting of reading, arithmetic, science, and history; and b) a hidden curriculum designed to mold us into functioning members of society.
