Corporate advertising: what is acceptable and not?

Corporations advertise regularly. It's obvious. Look around you. Name brands are everywhere. Every emblem, every slogan is advertising. So why do we has Americans have bans on advertising cigarettes but not alcohol? Think about it. I am not condoning tobacco use, nor alcohol. But what is the logic behind the concept of banning cigarette ads? Should we ban the ads of alcohol as well?
